Module 4 Reflection

EPS 415 - Information Technology Ethics

This was a much more interesting module for me. The reliability of information online is a constant struggle for high school teachers and students. Many students tend to take the path of least resistance and simply go with the first site they find, often Wikipedia. Educators also have an ongoing debate as to whether or not students should use sites such as Wikipedia. Some teachers even restrict or forbid the use of the Internet for projects.

It is an ongoing concern and a challenge for teachers. With the incredible range and quantity of information available online, teaching students how to use the Internet effectively is very difficult. Preventing cheating and plagiarism, made much easier by the Internet is also a challenge. Making things even more difficult is the ever-evolving nature of the Internet. Keeping up with all the changes and new software requires continual attention.

Many teachers are going to need to come to terms with the Internet and the more they restrict it’s use, the more they are depriving their students of an amazing resource.
