Once again we have a module where there was little that was new. Plagiarism and cheating is something I deal with every week in my professional life. Every week my students have a writing assignment that I have to grade for content and style and review for plagiarism and I watch my students like a hawk during major exams. We take academic integrity very seriously at my school and I take it very seriously in my classroom. As for intellectual property I’m afraid that’s an argument that I think will never be solved. With ever improving technologies that allow anyone to create and publish their work to the world independently, I think we’ll soon start seeing radical changes in the way we buy books and music and more. Copyright laws are going to need some drastic and dramatic changes to meet the challenges of 21st century technologies and I think attitudes.
One thing I did find very interesting was the “Securexam Remote Proctor”. It’s a pretty slick piece of technology. Many of the biometric technologies people are using to prevent cheating are intriguing and I’m curious to learn if they actually work or if they’re just expensive toys.
Overall though, there wasn’t anything that challenged my current ethical beliefs or convictions.
