My name is John Silva. By day I am a history teacher and debate coach at Lindblom Math & Science Academy in Chicago, IL. It is my first year at Lindblom and my fifth year teaching overall. This year I teach four classes of Honors United States History and one class of freshman World Studies. I greatly enjoy teaching and have never regretted changing careers.

In the evenings I am an online grad student. I am pursuing my M.Ed in e-learning through the University if Illinois Global Campus. I am also a member of the Global Campus Advisory Committee as a student member.

My wife and I recently celebrated our 8th anniversary and our 14th year together. We have lived in Chicago for 11 of those years after leaving Washington, DC where we met. I moved to Washington in 1994 shortly after receiving my Honorable Discharge from the US Marine Corps.

We’ll see what will come of this blog over the next few weeks as I progress through my most recent course through Global Campus.
